"In 2008, I received my amateur radio license (Ham Radio) and quickly realized that without power, communication is dead in the water. Spending a fair amount of time camping I wanted a power source that was number one, portable and number two, did not use gas/diesel. I did not want to drag a loud generator into the woods and that left the notion that solar power and a storage battery would be just what I was looking for. In April 2009, I put together the first (“power box”) PB-1000 with its first field debut in Springfield Illinois. The PB-1000 was tasked with powering two 2M Ham radios while attached to the (“solar panel”) SP-1000 which laid on top of my SUV. The event lasted 10 hours and only drained the battery by 2%. The starting voltage on the PB-1000 was 12.8VDC and after 10 hours of use, the ending voltage on the PB-1000 was 12.6VDC. A remarkable showing!" If you have found this website then you maybe looking for the same thing I was in 2008, a portable power source that could be taken anywhere. Myself, I needed to power communication radios for a Boy Scout expedition. You on the other hand maybe a hunter who needs to be able to recharge a walkie-talkie or a cell phone before the next days hunt. You may be a police chief looking for a backup power source for your radios for when the next snow storm hits and the gasoline generator runs out of gas. We are all looking for a power source that can sustain itself and be recharged by the on-board solar panel.
